HOUSTON – Local community and business leaders will be trading in their professional shoes for a pair of dancing shoes for this year’s “Urban Soul’s Dancing with the Houston Stars” charity gala. The gala will take place Sunday, May 4 at the H.E.S.S. Club on Westheimer.
Inspired by the nationally televised competition, the dance company thought this fun event was a way to bring more exposure to the local founded by Harris Guy, has not only earned a valuable place in the Houston dance community, but has won awards at showcases throughout Texas and across the United States.
Guy is a classically trained dancer who studied and toured with the prestigious Alvin Ailey dancers. He and general manager Walter Hull, another dance phenom, use dance as a way to build self-esteem for our youth and tackle socially-conscious issues in the world, including HIV/ AIDS, genocide, and other issues affecting the generations.
The dance troupe has also spread their mission to Rwanda, where they travel yearly to bring workshops to the kids there. This year, our own KHOU.com Senior Digital Media Producer Nakia Cooper will be dancing with her dynamic partner Donnie Johnson as they hope to light up the floor.
