HOUSTON – People in Houston’s Third Ward are furious over plans to relocate their post office.

On Saturday, they met with community leaders and postal service representatives.

The postal service is planning to relocate six Houston post offices to make them more efficient, but Third Ward residents say they like their post office right where it is, in the 4100 block of Almeda.

“Post offices reflect the community. They are sources of communication for all of our constituents,” U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee said. “We have been in discussion with the postal service and we are optimistic that the postal service is going to listen to our constituents.”

The Congresswoman said she understands the postal service must downsize, but says closing this location may not be the best choice.
