GALVESTON — Graduate students at Texas A&M University at Galveston are conducting a case study about the decades-long battle over development and mitigation of wetlands in Lafitte’s Cove on the island’s West End.
The study is part of a project for students enrolled in a wetlands management class led by Professor Thomas Linton. Rather than a semester laden with lectures and note-taking, Linton said he assigned students to untangle the permitting and management policies related to wetlands.
The Lafitte’s Cove Nature Society was an ideal focus of the project because it has all the elements encompassed in the course description, Linton said.
