HOUSTON – The annual Super Feast at the George R. Brown Convention Center served nearly 20,000 people on Thanksgiving.
Nathaniel Simmons waited eight hours in the cold.
"I'm wondering if they gon' help me because I need me a place before Christmas,” Simmons said. “I come here to see how much help can I get."
Between servings of turkey and stuffing, organizers gave away clothes, haircuts and even helped with bills.
“It's important because during this time especially it’s nice to make people feel loved, wanted and cherished and we simply try to do that here,” said Super Feast organizer Stephanie Lewis.
Thousands of volunteers worked at differed stations in the ballroom.
"I like helping others and I work in a hospital so I know about giving,” said volunteer Eleanor Wilson. “So this is my way of every year coming down and helping somebody less fortunate."
