SUGAR LAND, Texas--Avery Canahuati lost her battle with Spinal Muscular Atrophy at only five-months-old and the Sugar land Skeeters are continuing her memory by raising money for disease awareness.
On August 13, the Skeeters will be honoring the baby with "A Day for Avery" at Constellation Field. They ask everyone wear purple in solidarity with the players, who will be wearing special jerseys in Avery’s memory.
Fans will be able to participate in the world’s longest first pitch and the first 2,000 people at the gates will receive "Strike Out SMA" bracelets.
Donations can be made at customer service starting at 6 p.m. that grant fans access onto the field, a golf cart raffle and other surprises that will benefit Sophia’s Cure Foundation, the non-profit of the Canahuati family’s choice for SMA awareness.
Tickets to the game that night will be $16 and $10 from each purchase will go to Sophia’s Cure Foundation.
