HOUSTON – Parents packed two meeting Monday night to fight HISD’s plans to close their children’s schools.
So many people showed up at Port Houston Elementary School that the crowds spilled outside onto the lawn.
HISD said they’re closing the campuses because enrollment numbers are sliding and it’s more efficient to close them, but parents believe that’s an advantage.
“This is a very tight school where every teacher, administrator and volunteer knows every child,” said Angie Gallegos.
Jones, Dodson and Nathanial Henderson are also up for possible closure. The school board is set to vote on March 13.
