GALVESTON, Texas -- There's a new effort to revive Galveston's Beach Party Weekend, but Galveston Police said no one has said anything to them.

At one time, beach Party Weekend was one of Galveston’s biggest events. As many as 250,000 African American students would fill the island, but the party ended as Galveston Police tried to control the traffic flow.

A new group is trying to revive the tradition. Most of the parties will be in Houston, but will move to the island Saturday afternoon.

“We want to go and take advantage of some of the great restaurants in the area, and some of the great bars in the Galveston area,” said event organizer Dequalon Woods.

Galveston Police have not issued any permits for parties, but said everyone is welcome to visit Easter weekend
