GALVESTON, Texas – Mardi Gras in Galveston kicks off Friday, and KHOU 11 News is on the island to get a sneak peek at what’s planned for this year.
This year’s celebration runs Feb. 21 to March 4.
Organizers say more than three million beads will be thrown at Mardi Gras! Galveston, and that’s just the beginning of the elaborate parades, headliner performances, family events, feasting and other festivities that come with hosting Mardi Gras island style.
One of the several free, family-friendly events planned is the “Hokey Pokey with the 4th Annual Funky Uptown Umbrella Brigade.” This year they’re hoping to top 1,500 people to “do a little dance, have a little fun and get down tonight.”
Don’t forget: this will be the first Mardi Gras on the Seawall that requires paid parking.
Many of the events require registration.
