HOUSTON—A fixture in downtown Houston for 65 years is closing its doors.
Macy’s in the 1100 block of Main Street originally opened as Foley’s in 1947.
Sales have dropped in recent years so the company is closing six stores nationwide.
Macy’s hopes to find a smaller and less expensive spot in downtown Houston.
Starting Monday, Macy’s downtown will have a clearance sale that will last for the next several weeks. It will close for good sometime in the spring.
Mayor Annise Parker said the building on Main will be demolished to make room for a new high-rise.
