HOUSTON – The Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens is a rich cultural arts center and features 14 acres of organically maintained gardens in Houston’s historic River Oaks neighborhood.

This beautiful estate was established in 1925 when Houston civic leader and philanthropist Ima Hogg and her two brothers, Mike and Will, selected this wooded area as their home. Ima Hogg lived in the museum estate from 1928-1965 and left her home, gardens and collection as a legacy to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. The gardens first opened to the public in 1966 and has become a recognized treasure of distinguished art and beauty.

‘River Oaks Garden Club and Bayou Bend’s curator of gardens are guided by the 1994 and 2010 master plans adopted to ensure that the gardens continue into perpetuity as a historic, but not static, site. The gardens, now in their eighth decade, remain a living testament to Ima Hogg’s life, vision, and generosity to Houston.’ – Bayou Bend Gardens

Bayou Bend is open throughout the year and welcomes thousands of visitors annually for tours and special programs. Bayou Bend has been recognized as the first historic public garden in Texas to practice organic gardening, which began in 2001.

The MFAH comprises two gallery buildings, a sculpture garden, visitors center, library, movie theater, gift shop, café, two art schools, and two house museums.

The public is invited to attend ‘Bubbly on the Bend,’ an exclusive evening outdoors at the River Oaks estate on April 3, 2014 from 5:30-8 p.m. Guests will enjoy an evening under an elegant Southern garden tent, sip champagne and stroll through the estate’s gorgeous gardens, tour the first floor of the historic mansion and enjoy live music by local quartet Grand Old Grizzly.  For ticket information, click here.
