HOUSTON—Sixty years of birthdays, 60 years of wedded bliss or 60 years of dusting off that same old clunker in the driveway. My, how the time flies when you are having fun or doing what you love to do!

On March 23, 1953, KHOU 11 went on the air and, would you believe, six decades have passed? We are now celebrating our 60th anniversary and we want to celebrate with you!

The Belo-owned station originally signed on under the call sign KGUL-TV (as in gulf or as in “seagull”) by Paul Taft of the Taft Broadcasting Co. Originally licensed to Galveston, it was the second television station to launch in the Houston area.

One of the original investors in the station was actor James Stewart, how’s that for a Hollywood connection?

Do you remember some of the faces who have appeared on camera, including former CBS Evening News anchor Dan Rather, NBC News correspondent Dennis Murphy, newswomen Linda Ellerbee and Jessica Savitch, and sports anchors Jim Nantz and Ron Franklin.

One of the most notable personalities was former National Hurricane Center director, Dr. Neil Frank, who was hired as the station’s chief meteorologist in July 1987. Even though “Doc” is officially retired, he still lends his expertise during Hurricane season.

So since we’ve shared our story, share yours! Send us photos of any milestones marking your 60 years including birthdays, anniversaries, military milestones or whatever anniversary you are celebrating. It could even be 60 years of running a successful business like us!

Click here to upload your photos or share them on the KHOU 11 Facebook page.  Don't forget to share your story with us in the comments section below!

And by the way, Happy Anniversary and “cheers to you too, kid" from KHOU 11 News!
