HOUSTON—Thousands of our fallen heroes were honored on Independence Day, one at a time.

More than 70,000 names of veterans buried at the Houston National Cemetery were read aloud in what has become a 4th of July tradition.

Volunteers went to each gravesite to read each marker.

“It’s just amazing that all these people contribute to our freedom, and us being able to live in this country, and have the things that we have,” said Cydi Hall, a volunteer. “It’s just a small token of what I can do.”

The reading of all the names took about three hours.
