HOUSTON – Houston has been chosen as a finalist for Super Bowl 51 in 2017.

We will compete against either San Francisco or Miami, whichever city does not get Super Bowl 50 in 2016, according to the Texans.

NFL owners will vote on 2016 and 2017 Super Bowls next May.

Houston last hosted the Super Bowl in 2004 at Reliant Stadium.

Since then, the city has submitted three more bids, but all have failed.

The next three Super Bowls are scheduled for New Orleans, New Jersey, and Arizona.

Four years and four months might seem like a long ways away, but fans are already buzzing about what it would be like to have Super Bowl 2017 at Reliant.

“We have a great stadium, we have a great infrastructure.  I’d go for it,” said Jon Sanchez, Texans fan.

Jud McLeod, another Texans fan, agreed.

“It brings people in that catch the vibe and energy of the city, so when they’re coming in and seeing that here in Houston, they’re going to see what Houston is about. I think Houston has a reason to be proud,” McLeod said.

Houston also has a reason to be proud about next year’s super bowl because Beyonce will be performing.   The Houston native has confirmed she will take center stage at halftime  at the Superdome in New Orleans
