HOUSTON -- The Saint Vincent de Paul parish located near the Medical Center is celebrating the election of the first Latin American pope.
Inside the parish, Monsignor William Young gathered with students from a religious studies class. They watched anxiously as Pope Francis I finally emerged from behind the red curtain.
They all had an overall sense of optimism in the belief that Pope Francis I is just what the Church needs.
Monsignor Young said the only thing he could compare this to was how thrilled people were when John Paul II assumed the papacy in 1978.
