HOUSTON – The newest Houston Rocket caused a stir when he was spotted leaving a restaurant Tuesday morning.
Fans and TV cameras were there to greet Dwight Howard outside the Breakfast Klub near downtown.
At 6’11, it’s hard to miss the 27-year-old superstar.
"I’m very happy to be here in this beautiful city. And we’re gonna have a lot of fun this year so I’m really looking forward to it," Howard said.
Howard may be new to Houston, but he’s not new to the Breakfast Klub, where he enjoyed the restaurant’s signature catfish and grits.
"He has been a customer here since the Orlando days," said owner Marcus Davis. "And I don’t know if you guys know but this is what sealed the deal: the taste between our chicken and the chicken in California."
Howard, wearing his Rockets workout gear, posed for a few photographs before heading back to his new job.
He knows expectations are high.
"We’re very excited. We’ve been talking and we’ve been, we’re ready to go," Howard said. "Finished all my physicals early so I can just focus on playing basketball and getting ready for the season."
"It’s exciting for the city, it’s exciting for the Houston Rockets and I’m sure it’s exciting for him," Davis said.
The Howard deal is going to cost the Rockets a little bit more than planned. The NBA is reportedly fining them $150,000 for talking about the deal during a moratorium.
