HOUSTON – The Metro rail line will shut down and local buses will be rerouted as Macy’s downtown is prepared for implosion, officials said.

The temporary service shutdowns and detours are scheduled for Friday, Sept. 20.

The downtown Macy’s building is located at 1110 Main, adjacent to the rail line and its Main Street Square Station.

The 10-story structure is scheduled to come down 10 minutes past sunrise on Sunday, Sept. 22.

Metro will shut down the entire 7.5-mile light-rail line Friday night at 9 p.m. so that electrical lines and poles on its southbound tracks can be removed or secured. Patrons will be served by shuttle buses running between Fannin South and UH-Downtown.

Fourteen bus routes will be detoured throughout the downtown area on Sunday, Sept. 22, the day of the implosion. Metro staff will be on hand to assist with transfers. Travel on the following routes will require extra time:

3 Langley

6 Jensen

20 Canal/Long Point

36 Lawndale

37 El Sol

40 Pecore/Telephone

44 Acres Homes Ltd.

48  Navigation

50 Harrisburg/Heights

56 Airline

78 Irvington

85 Antoine Ltd.

102 Bush IAH

137 Northshore

MetroRail is expected to be running again by Monday, Sept. 23.  If rail service is not possible (due to safety concerns) a bus bridge between Fannin South and UH-Downtown will be established. Additionally METRO will bring service to key locations, if needed, with the following:

Smith Lands lot shuttle to TMC campus

TMC Express shuttle from downtown (Milam and Smith) through the TMC Campus
