HOUSTON -- Texans defensive end J.J. Watt was showing off a new pair of Nike shoes Thursday.
They are not on store shelves yet. There is no release date. There is not even a price yet. Watt said he and Nike are working on those details.
"The shoes are cool. I like 'em," Watt said. "They're something Nike and I came up with. They're a training shoe. It's just a shoe for me to wear in the weight room and I designed them so anybody could wear them, any age, any size."
A few folks downtown, however, told us they did not really care for the design. One woman said the all white shoes with a lattice-work design looked "dull." Another man said he did not care for the lattice look.
Watt said he plans to give a pair to each of his teammates.
As for his coach, Gary Kubiak said, "It's J.J. I'd probably go at least $20 for J.J."
Texans owner Bob McNair was willing to bid a little higher.
"Oh, I probably would (buy a pair)," he said. "I probably would be an easy sell for him."
Watt's little brother was on the sidelines at practice today. Derek Watt, who is a red-shirt sophomore at the University of Wisconsin said, "I like 'em. I mean, I'm getting a pair myself. They're pretty white, so he's got a few pairs in case they get dirty."
