HOUSTON—Business Leaders from all industries celebrated the city’s national green achievements and collaborated on improving Houston’s Energy Star and EPA ranking on May 9, 2012.

The Celebrate Green Houston and the 2012 Green Business Exchange was held at the Green Building Resource Center at 1002 Washington Avenue.

Laura Spanjian, Sustainability Director for the City of Houston, The Honorable Bill and Andrea White and Federico Marques (Co-Owner of Ruggles Green) made a passionate appeal to business leaders in the community to take action and collaborate with at least one Green industry by the end of 2012.

An Eccotoure Fashion Line by Danny Nguyen and Sally Templeton, adorned with jewelry by Monique Weston of One Green Street and make up by Steven “ColeColors” Coleman was a crowd favorite.

The Museum of Cultural Arts Houston (MOCAH) designed its first apparel piece specifically for this event.

Vintners Own generously supplied sustainable wine, a perfect companion to scrumptious organic bites from Ruggles Green.

Guests swayed to eclectic tunes selected by Lewis Grell as they received a guided facility tour of the City of Houston’s Permitting building, a modern architects dream come true. This building is set to receive one of the city’s highest EPA rankings with its roof top garden, condensation filtration watering system and a ceiling created with wood from Hurricane Ike,

Proceeds benefited the Houston Greeters, a 501c3 organization.

Houston Greeters was founded in 2006 and is part of a Global Greeter Network, an informal association of Greeter programs around the world. Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, the Ivory Coast, Germany, Greece, Ireland, the Republic of Serbia, Russia (Moscow), Spain, The Netherlands and the United Kingdom are some of the countries with active Greeter programs.  In the United States, Greeter programs are available in Houston, New York and Chicago.

The organization drives revenue, loyalty and increased brand exposure for the city of Houston by offering free “Greets” (personal introductions and tours) to some of Houston’s greatest assets and attractions. Tours are led by a knowledgeable volunteer.

Special Thanks to 002 Magazine, Prop Rock, Bright Star Productions and the largest art exhibitor of the night—Charles Washington – as his amazing, handcrafted doors were unforgettable.
