HOUSTON – KHOU 11 News Meteorologist Chita Johnson has been practicing her dance moves for an upcoming charity event to benefit the Halo House.
In fact, she’s been working on her moves for two months.
A professional ballroom dancer assisted the weather professional in learning the moves, but Saturday’s event isn’t just about the dance. It’s about a mission.
Tommie Burks was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma in 2006. It’s a slow growing incurable cancer. He’s been in remission for the past two years, but while he battled a killer, Halo House was forming to help others battle the costly burden.
“Getting treatment for these diseases can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and that’s just for the treatment,” said Dr. Nathan Fowler.
That’s where Halo House comes in.
“Currently, it’s hard to affect the cost of medicine and scans and visits to the doctor, we can at least help them in some small way by providing housing.”
Fowler and Burks joined forces to help other cancer patients and provide housing during their treatment.
