SPRING, Texas – A Spring family was heartbroken this week when they came home to discover a heartless thief had stolen their beloved dog and all of their Christmas presents.

Dan Grant said they took about $15,000 worth of gifts, including the ones that were going to a toy drive for the Montgomery County Women’s Center.

Grant said the gifts can be replaced, but his children were devastated to learn that Stella, their pet Schnauzer, was gone.

The Grants bought Stella from an out-of-town breeder a year ago after their 14-year-old border collie died.

"She was the dog that sat on my lap every night when I watched Sports Center," he said.

Stella was in a crate and the thieves took it too, Grant said.

They also took his kids’ sense of security.

"Honestly, they’re scared to go upstairs by themselves now," Grant said. "They’re afraid someone else is going to come in and take them at this point. They’re 10 and 8 so it’s hitting them pretty hard."

The culprits damaged walls and even knew about secret rooms in the family’s home so Grant believes they may know them.

Grant had a new security system installed Thursday.

Anyone with information about Stella should contact the Harris County Precinct Four Constable at 281- 376-3472.
