HOUSTON—The big bikes are descending on Galveston this weekend for the Lone Star Rally.
When you hear bike rally, plenty comes to mind, like the growl of big engines and the smell of leather. It seemed to fit right in on the Strand.
”That’s a Big Dog 2002 Big Dog,” said proud biker Scott Kitchener.
The chrome draws plenty of gawkers, but the real draw of the Lone Star Rally is the people watching.
“It gets bigger and better every year,” said Vickey Posey.
At the rally you’ll see ink, oil and helmets that do more than protect.
”They’ll be guys down here from Alaska. I saw a guy two years ago from Hawaii who had his bike shipped over. It’s a big deal!” Kitchener said.
”You’ll see doctors and lawyers, merchants and I’m sure there (are) a lot of thieves down here too,” Posey said.
This year the bikes aren’t just on the strand, but the seawall too.
One of the things that keeps Badger Bob and his booth coming back every year from San Diego is the atmosphere.
“Being in an old town in an old city—this is what it is all about,” he said.
