KHOU 11 is proud to team up with the Houston Area Road Runners Association (HARRA) and presenting sponsor Apache Corporation for the Bayou City Classic 10k and 5k Fun Run, Saturday, March 9, 2013 in downtown Houston.

The Road Runners Club of America has selected the Bayou City Classic 10k as its Texas State Championship 10k Race for 2013.  In addition to the 10k, there will be a Family-Friendly 5k Fun Run.

The race features an Art Car processional and centipedes (groups of at least six runners who complete the race while attached to one another), costumed runners and music.  Runners will enjoy refreshments and live music at the post race party on Hermann Square at City Hall.

As the exclusive television sponsor, KHOU 11 will host a booth at the post race party and KHOU 11 News Anchor Lily Jang will help get the runners started as the event emcee.

Proceeds from the Bayou City Classic go toward helping maintain and develop trails for running and walking in Houston's city parks.  Last year, the Bayou City Classic was able to present $45,000 to the Houston Parks and Recreation Department for new tree planting and to help maintain and develop trails for running and walking in our city parks.

The Bayou City Classic welcomes its new premier sponsors, Fleet Feet Stores, West Point Lincoln and Fuel Kitchen and Health Bar, who join returning presenting sponsor, Apache Corporation, and returning premier sponsors Specialty Healthcare and Wellness and Whole Foods Market.

There are no price increases from 2012 or additional charges for registering online.  All finishers receive finisher's shirts, with short sleeved gender specific New Balance technical shirts for 10k finishers and cotton t-shirts for 5k finishers.  This year, the Bayou City Classic offers reduced 5k registration fees for youth born in 2000 or later as well as youth sized finisher shirts.

Top finishers will receive cash awards.  The masters winners will be determined by age-grading.
