HOUSTON - At the Bayou City Art Festival, there is something for everyone.

More than a thousand artists apply, but only 300 folks get to display their works of art, from paintings to wind mobiles and unique lawn ornaments to a bench made out of bottle caps.

“By using sheet metal, I bend and form it into a three-dimensional character,” Casey Horn said. Horn came all the way from Colorado to show how he made Chinese calligraphy come to life.

“The average piece takes about eight weeks to make start to finish,” Horn added.

The festival has activities even for the youngest of artists.

“It’s called a ‘bumblebee’ and there is another kite that looks like this,” Jennifer Richards, an art instructor, said.

Skylar and Mia Schlenker were inspired to make kites. “We walked around a lot, looked at art,” Mia, 7, said.

The weekend-long event wraps up on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Memorial Park.
