HOUSTON – Tails and tongues will be wagging this weekend during the Barkitecture Houston Tour and Charity Auction at Houston Pavilions.
Area artists, architects and designers create stylish doghouses that will be auctioned off to raise money for Pup Squad Animal Rescue.
"Our animal-loving design friends have truly stepped it up for this year’s event and we couldn’t be more pleased," Julie Landry, Co-founder of Pup Squad Animal Rescue said.
The festivities kick off on Friday, October 26 with a special "Yappy Hour" in the Houston Pavilions courtyard. The public is invited to bring their pooch and enjoy drinks, raffle drawings and door prizes on the McCormick and Schmick’s patio from 5-9 p.m.
The fun continues on Saturday with the official Barkitecture auction and Art + Bark photo exhibit. From noon-5 p.m. owners of the area’s most spoiled canines will have the opportunity to bid on their favorite entries.
In addition, the Barkitecture Houston Steering Committee judges will select their favorite submissions, honoring the "top dog" with the Best in Show award. Entries will also be awarded in the People’s Choice and Kid’s Choice categories.
With a record number of doghouses up for auction, event organizers hope to top the $18,000 raised last year to help support the organization in their mission to save orphaned puppies, kittens and nursing litters from life on the streets, in shelters or other life-threatening situations.
Admission to all Barkitecture Houston events is free and open to the public. Houstonians of all ages are encouraged to attend the family-friendly festivities with their four-legged friends. Event parking will be available at 1301 Main Street. For more information, please visit
