HOUSTON— BARC is joining animal shelters and organizations across the U.S. today for the national no kill “Just One Day” event.

The national event aims not only to stop to euthanizations for a day, but also place shelter animals across the nation into permanent homes. The event's organizers say 10,411 animals are killed each day in shelters across the country.

This is the peak season when BARC says it is almost overrun with homeless dogs and cats.

To further encourage adoptions during the “Just One Day” event, Proler Southwest/Sims Metal Management is sponsoring adoption fees for the first 25 PurrFurred pet adoptions at BARC. PurrFurred pets are dogs and cats that have been at BARC for more than 20 days. The adoption package includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a one-year city pet license and a pre-registered microchip with lifetime registration.

BARC said it will not euthanize any animals that can be saved Wednesday and encouraged all Houstonians to get the word out about its participation in the “Just One Day” event.

This is the third year in a row that BARC has participated in the event.

BARC is located at 3200 Carr Street, Houston, 77026 and is open for adoptions Tuesday through Wednesday and Friday through Sunday from noon to 5:30 p.m.
