Continental eyes flight resumptions after storm

09:47 PM CDT on Monday, September 1, 2008

KHOU.com staff report

HOUSTON -- With the danger of Hurricane Gustav passed, Continental Airlines said it was prepared to resume flights to storm affected possibly as soon as tomorrow.

Flights to various airports in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and east Texas were delayed or canceled on Monday. The airline was conducting airport condition assessments to determine if full flight schedules would resume on Tuesday.

It was unclear when Louis B. Armstrong Airport in New Orleans would reopen.

The airline said it plans to resume flights to and from Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; Jackson, Miss.; Monroe, La. and Pensacola, Fla. on Tuesday.

Passengers whose flights were canceled because of the storm will be able to change their itinerary at no cost.

While many of its commercial flights were canceled in the storm-affected areas, Continental said it provided seats to 1,200 people to evacuate out of New Orleans in advance of the hurricane.
