Higher gas and grocery prices have a lot of people looking for ways to cut costs.

And many are counting on money they’re getting from the federal government.

Mega sale or is it just another sale, whatever the wording, more stores are offering more money back.

Moms, Edie and Julie Sereno lament the price they pay to keep their kids in fashion.

But coupons, they say, make it easier.

“The coupon books are comin’ in, you’re getting them in the newspaper. You’re getting them in the mail. I’ve started clipping those and I haven’t done that in years,” said Edie Sereno.

“It’s probably been ten years since I’ve clipped coupons and I’m really using them now,” said Julie Sereno.

These moms are finding many discounts in the papers, but even more, online.

“Oh my, you get so many bargains it’s absolutely ridiculous,” said XX.

So what kind of money can you really save online?

Well consider this, the latest Nike running shoe will cost you $140 at the mall, but you’ll save $28 by using an online coupon.

Retail expert Betsy Gelb says some online websites offer more than 70,000 coupons.

A recent survey shows that the average online shopper saves $29 for ever $151 they spend.

That’s $29 off the price they’d find at stores.

And more incentives are expected especially when tax rebate checks arrive in may.

“That’s going to affect shopping in Houston more than any coupon because nobody gives you $600 in a coupon,” said Gelb.
