Video from Hurricane Ida as the Category 4 storm moved ashore

The storm had maximum sustained winds of 150 mph as it made landfall Sunday.

NEW ORLEANS — Hurricane Ida came ashore Sunday in Louisiana as a powerful Category 5 storm. The system brought with it life-threatening storm surge, maximum sustained winds of 150 mph and gusts up to 185 mph.

New Orleans

New Orleans was on the dirty side of the storm and the French Quarter was one of the spots that hardest hit. This is damage from Ida blowing in, before the worst of the storm.

Also in New Orleans, the powerful wind from Hurricane Ida broke the Chalmette Ferry free.

Slidell, Louisiana

Grand Isle, Louisiana

Grand Isle was near where Ida made landfall. We're seeing unbelievable conditions there.

St. Bernard Parish

In St. Bernard Parish, the storm surge was caught on camera. Security cameras at a fire station in Delecroix captured water rising around the building.

Here's another clip from St. Bernard Parish, which is 75 miles away from Port Fourchon, the spot of the first Louisiana landfall.

Venetian Isles

KHOU 11 reporter Xavier Walton captured video of storm surge at Venetian Isles.

Hurricane Ida from the air

Hurricane hunters captured the view from above the storm as it was moving ashore. This is what a Category 4 hurricane looks like from above.

Gulfport, Mississippi

It wasn't just Louisiana that got hammered by the storm. Mississippi saw hurricane-force winds and storm surge. This is video from Gulfport.
