Disaster relief group using money from J.J. Watt fund to rebuild homes

HOUSTON - A disaster relief group that rebuilds homes received $8.5 million from J.J. Watt's foundation.

The group, SBP, is busy using the money to repair 100 homes in northeast Houston. They plan to repair about 100 more in that area.

The group is still accepting applications from Harvey victims. Income and geographic requirements apply.

SBP stands for St. Bernard Parish. It was started by a couple after Katrina and has grown into a national organization that rebuilds victims' homes after disasters.

Group leaders in Houston said they would really appreciate it if licensed plumbers, electricians and roofers volunteered services. Money spent on subcontractors could then be used to help more families get into their homes.
