Weather Blog: Blame it on the rain

Probably not what many want to hear - heavy rain threat Wednesday and Thursday. One to three inches of rain is possible as we head in to the next forty eight hours.

Pack the rain gear Wednesday and Thursday AS big changes are in the forecast.

A cold front that will be moving in from the northwest will give the uplift to create strong storms across the area. At this point, timing of the strong storms looks to be early Wednesday morning and lingering showers throughout the day Wednesday and Thursday.

A quick one to three inches of rain could happen across the area early tomorrow morning. That is enough to create ponding or isolated ares of street flooding.

However, I am not expecting the flood threat to be widespread across the city. The rain could be blinding at times if you are driving and could be intense for any children outside. Some of the storms will be capable of strong winds and small hail.

Today will set the stage for the rain tomorrow. A few scattered showers and high humidity will help fuse the atmosphere with unstable conditions.

If you want to be on the safe side, grab your umbrella and throw it in the back of the car just in case you need it this afternoon, even though the heaviest rain is expected Wednesday with rain lingering through Thursday.

Most of your Tuesday you'll be talking about the winds. Sustained winds out of the southeast will be around 15-20 mph with gusts as high as 30 mph. The southeast wind will fuel the atmosphere with unstable conditions, setting the stage for strong storms tomorrow as our next cold front approaches.
