GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas -- I-45 northbound was shut down in Galveston County following an overnight chemical spill.
Hydraulic fluid associated with a construction project spilled onto the mainlanes in the early-morning hours. Crews on the scene said the fluid leaked from one of the work vehicles.
As of 8:20 a.m. the cleanup was still underway near FM 646 with all mainlanes shut down. Some traffic was forced off the road while others were allowed to squeeze around the mess using an exit ramp.
The freeway partially reopened at about 9:30 a.m.
