HOUSTON – Police are investigating a fatal crash on the North Freeway early Tuesday morning.
According to the Houston Police Department, it happened at 5:45 a.m. in the 4000 block of the North Freeway near the North Loop.
Police said the victim was driving a red GMC Sierra pickup truck south on the North Freeway and exited on to the 610 North Loop heading west. While on the ramp, he lost control of the vehicle, crossed over a grassy median and then into the main lanes of the North Loop, police said. His vehicle was then struck by a commercial truck.
Police said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the commercial truck was questioned and released. Police said the driver of the GMC was at-fault in the crash.
Houston TranStar reports as of 9 a.m. all westbound main lanes remained blocked. The freeway has since fully reopened.
