HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- The Texas Department of Transportation reports a fatal auto-pedestrian incident shut down the Fred Hartman Bridge early Friday.

The bridge was shut down northbound over the ship channel before 5 a.m.

Harris County Pct. 8 Deputy Constables report the victim was a 32-year-old male from Houston. Constables say multiple people called 911 to report the man was walking in traffic shortly before the incident occurred.

"This case remains under investigation and it is currently unknown if the incident was the result of an intentional suicide or simply a tragic accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the man who died," Pct. 8 officials stated in a press release.

The bridge fully reopened shortly before 7:30 a.m.
