HOUSTON- A driver hit and killed a man attempting to cross the street in southwest Houston late Saturday night.

According to authorities, the incident happened around 11:45 p.m. on S. Gessner Road at the Southwest Freeway. A man in his 60s attempted to cross S. Gessner at an unprotected area and was struck by a car traveling southbound.

The driver said he didn't see him come out from the middle median until it was too late.

The pedestrian died at the scene.

Police said there was no alcohol involved, and charges aren't expected.
