Could SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk be open to building underground tunnels to fix flooding problems in Houston? His response to a particular tweet on Friday suggests maybe so.
Friday afternoon, writer Maddie Stone tweeted an article from The Houston Chronicle about curing the city's flooding problems.
The article explains the Harris County Flood Control District could one day build massive, underground tunnels to carry flood waters from local bayous toward the Houston Ship Channel.
Stone tweeted the link, asking the business magnate and engineer, "Hey @elonmusk wanna dig some holes?" to which the he responded simply, "Ok"
Though Musk didn't say anything else, his response did not go unnoticed in the Twitter world.
The one-word reply has been favorited 6,000 times and re-tweeted more than 300 times.
Musk is already planning to build underground tunnels in other U.S. cities to ease traffic congestion. It's the goal of a new company he founded in 2016 he named The Boring Company.
Stone responded to his reply tweeting, "My commission rate is 10% or a free flamethrower."
In 2017, Musk began selling real flamethrowers to the public for $500 a piece to help raise money for the tunneling business.
The flamethrowers (and separate fire extinguishers) sold out quickly. According to the company's website, more than 20,000 were sold.
On Friday, the Twitter replies to his tweet OK-ing the idea of building tunnels in H-town have been hilarious and hopeful.
The inventor is open to just about any idea under the sun. So could he really be interested in fixing the Bayou City's flooding woes with underground tunnels?
We can only hope but his reply is definitely encouraging. The Boring Company to the rescue, indeed.
