Virginia dismissed forward Austin Nichols after just one game with the program.
The announcement by the school Friday comes three days after Nichols, a transfer from Memphis, scored 11 points and three rebounds against St. Francis (N.Y.) in his first action with the Cavaliers.
The junior sat out last season while transferring and was then suspended for Virginia's two preseason games and season opener against North Carolina-Greensboro.
“It’s a privilege to be a part of this program and Austin has lost that privilege,” Virginia coach Tony Bennett said in a statement. “We have standards for our student-athletes and when those standards aren’t met, there are consequences and this is the unfortunate consequence.”
