When Super Bowl visitors touch down at Hobby Airport, the first thing they’ll see is the new and improved Broadway Street.

The 2-mile project has been in the works for the last two years.

Hundreds of trees and flowers have been planted on Broadway’s medians. Crews have also installed new street lights and improved walkways.

“From parks, to what we’re doing with the bridges, to what we’re doing with our streets, to what’s happening downtown, in the East End, when you look at it, we have come so far from 2004 when the last Super Bowl was held in our city,” said Mayor Sylvester Turner.

City leaders say the new perks aren’t just for the out-of-towners.

“Most importantly, all these improvements bring new life to the community,” said City Councilman Robert Gallegos.

“People coming here for the Super Bowl, they’ll love it. But the people staying in the City of Houston will love it even more,” Turner said.
