HOUSTON – The Houston Rockets unveiled new replica championship trophies to commemorate titles in 1994 and 1995.

The trophies are on display until Sept. 30 at Tiffany & Co. in the Galleria.

Handcrafted, standing 24 inches tall, in 24-karat gold vermeil finish, the trophies matched the originals in practically every way.

Of course these are replicas, which may take away from some of the luster, but not if you ask former NBA All-Star Robert Horry who was in attendance.

“That was just a special moment," he said. "Everything that tied in from him winning the trophy to us getting homecourt advantage, to us becoming Clutch City, it all represents this trophy."

The holy grails of the '94 and '95 seasons are with former owner Leslie Alexander somewhere. Sensing the void, Tilman Fertitta had Tiffany remake the trophies for the city to share.

“They’re going to be much more prominent. People will have a chance to take pictures with and be around,” said Rockets CEO Tad Brown.

For anyone nostalgic over the trophies, it’s true: it’s not the same. The question now remains: What do you remember most about the championships?

I’m willing to bet it wasn’t the hardware.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s a replica or not. It represents the hard work the players put in and the fans deserve to see it, regardless,” Horry said.
