SURPRISE, Ariz. - A woman who shot her common-law husband last Friday told Surprise, Arizona police the shooting stemmed from an argument over an affair she had with another man.

Laura Anne Curvin was arrested July 22 on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to police documents, Curvin shot her husband after an argument about an affair she had July 20.

During the argument, Curvin went and got the gun from upstairs in their Surprise home. She told police she had intended to shoot herself if he ended their relationship.

Instead, she said she was leaving and the two struggled over the gun before it went off and the man was hit in the midsection.

Both Curvin and the victim called 911.

When police searched the home later, they found a room dedicated to growing marijuana. Curvin told police she smokes and grows marijuana for health-related issues, but she does not have a marijuana card.

She was not booked on any marijuana-related charges.
