ATLANTA -- A recent carjacking left one person in the hospital and several suspects still on the run.

You see parts of it in this video. It's very grainy but it clearly shows a violent carjacking in progress in Southwest Atlanta.

The black and white car that's recklessly driving backward at a high rate of speed through the intersection is the carjacker's vehicle.

Police say moments before, these guys rear ended the victim's car. The victim then get's out to check the damage and is quickly met with a man with a gun demanding his belongings and his car.

Showing no mercy, the victim is shot. They get away in both cars and at last check, they're still on the run.

So what if you're driving and you're bumped from behind. What should you do?

"Typically we advise you call 911 provide all information regarding your exact location, the type of vehicles that are involved," Stephanie Brown with Atlanta Police Department.

Officers say if you feel safe and there are no injuries still call 911. You can exchange information with the other driver but Atlanta police recommend waiting for an officer to take a report.

But what if you do 'not' feel safe after an accident?

"If you're feeling unsafe or unsure about the area that you're in or the people involved in the accident, we always recommend that you go to a well-lit area. Be sure that you call 911 and let them know where you're going so we can send an officer there to assist you," Brown said.

Officers say don't hesitate to drive to a police station. Just let the dispatcher know you're headed that way.

Every situation is different but always err on the side of caution. It could save your life.
