WALLER COUNTY, Texas - Investigators confirmed a body found in a wooded area of Waller County is that of a missing Prairie View A&M student, Tristan Houston.
Deputies with the Waller County Sheriff's Officer said the body was found Friday in a wooded area in the Hockley area along Clear Creek road.
The Medical Examiner was able to identify it as Houston's body. The 20-year-old student had been reported missing earlier this week.
The sheriff's office posted to Facebook on Friday evening saying, it was "a tragic end to a young life."
They also said one suspect is in custody. Deputies said the suspect is a senior at Prairie View A&M University.
Authorities are also investigating a shooting near the university that left three people injured and one person killed early Saturday morning.
Dr. George C Wright, president of the university released the following statement on Saturday:
" Prairie View University is deeply saddened by the loss of our students. We send our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the victims. Campus safety is a primary concern for our administration.
While our students are on campus, our University Police Department does everything within its power to protect our students. We regularly talk to our students about being aware ...of their surroundings while off campus and we will continue to ask students to stay alert and report any suspicious activity.
While it is outside of the University Police Department's jurisdiction to police off campus, we are fully cooperating with ongoing investigations being conducted by the Waller County Sheriff's Department and the Texas Rangers."
