Woman, who claimed self-defense, charged with common-law husband's stabbing death

A woman who claimed self-defense has now been charged in the stabbing death of her common-law husband.

HOUSTON – A woman who claimed self-defense has now been charged in the stabbing death of her common-law husband.

According to the Houston Police Department, Maria Martinez, 31, is charged with murder in the stabbing death of her 26-year-old common-law husband, whose identity has not been released.

Investigators said Martinez and her common-law husband were driving in their vehicle near at 3700 Lazywood about 11:25 p.m. on Monday when they got into an argument.

Police said Martinez stabbed her husband in the chest. He was transported by HFD paramedics to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Martinez was detained and subsequently charged for her role in her husband's death.
