PALESTINE, Texas -- Palestine police arrested a suspect after he stole an ambulance and led police on a chase around town on Saturday.
Armando Vinaja, 18, had been transported to Palestine Regional Medical Center on Saturday for unknown reasons, with a Leon County Sheriff's deputy following the ambulance to the hospital. A short time later, Vinaja left the hospital in a stolen ambulance.
Palestine Police officers and Anderson County Sheriff's deputies gave chase. Vinaja headed east on South Loop 256, then turned south on Crockett Road. During the chase, Vinaja was seen hanging out of the ambulance and driving with one arm.
Authorities were able to arrest Vinaja after he turned east onto Park Avenue and hit a curb causing the motor to stall.
Vinaja was transported to the Anderson County Jail on charges of driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest or detention with vehicle. He is being held on a $115,000 bond.
