SAN ANTONIO -- Police said a mother-to-be took drastic steps to protect her unborn child and dog from an armed intruder.

The suspect broke into the woman's home before 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the 4000 block of Sunrise Creek, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

For her protection, she let her dog in through the back door. Investigators said the suspect shot at the dog a couple of times and missed.

The woman also struggled with the suspect and cut herself.

Police said the suspect was wearing a hoodie and has dreadlocks. He reportedly stole some items in the home before he escaped, and police said he faces a charge of armed robbery.
