A popular Dallas chef is scheduled to undergo spinal surgery after he was seriously injured in an off-road accident in West Texas this weekend, according to D Magazine.

Kent Rathbun was in Parkland Hospital on Monday, being treated for 22 broken ribs, a lacerated kidney, and multiple vertebrae fractures.

Rathbun founded Dallas-area restaurants Abacus and Jasper’s, and in 2008, he competed on Food Network’s “Iron Chef America” show against Bobby Flay.

The accident happened Saturday near Marfa, where Rathbun was riding on a Polaris Ranger with his wife, Tracy Rathbun, and their daughter, Garrett.
