TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas -- Authorities are investigating an area in South Travis County where human skeletal remains were found Sunday afternoon, according to the Travis County Sheriff's Office.

The remains were found at the 11500 block of Maha Loop Road at around 4:30 p.m., but the sheriff's office said it appears the remains had been there for an extended period of time. Kristen Dark with the sheriff's office said they believe the person was the victim of a "suspicious death."

Dark said medical examiners have begun their investigation, which is expected to take some time due to the decay.
