KERR COUNTY, Texas -- A man accused of killing and dismembering his wife in 1990 is back in custody after he had escaped from a mental hospital facility in San Antonio Sunday, according to San Antonio police.
Police say Gary Charles Ligon, 62, was found on Tuesday morning. They say Ligon was cooperative and told them he was hungry but otherwise OK. EMS checked him out, and he was transported back to the hospital.
Ligon was found not guilty by reason of insanity for the murder of his wife, Rebecca Clark Ligon, and was ordered to be held at a maximum security state hospital.
Ligon was accused of murdering his estranged wife and chopping her body into pieces on June 1, 1990.
He was committed to a state mental hospital after he was tried.
This is reportedly not the first time he escaped.
"This is the second time we as family and friends have had to deal with this," Terry McBee posted on Facebook. "Not to mention the terrible memories that come back. He is truly a monster."
