SPRING, Texas - The smash-and-grab robbery of a jewelry store resulted in a chase and subsequent crash in Spring Thursday afternoon.

Police say that several masked men barged into a Zale's jewelry store in Shenandoah and used a sledgehammer to smash the display cases. A customer inside helped them catch the suspects.

The customer said that the men were wearing masks and gloves and were having trouble breaking the glass and getting to the jewels. That's when the witness called police and told them what car the suspects were driving.

Police spotted the car on I-45 and attempted to pull it over but the suspects took off and a short chase ensued. The suspects hit a truck and a tree before bailing out of the car. Deputies were able to arrest all of the suspects.

The chase came to an end near I-45 and Sawdust. The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and received treatment on scene.

Investigators are checking to see if this robbery is related to a similar smash-and-grab heist at a nearby Helzberg Diamonds that happened last week in The Woodlands Mall.
