WEBSTER, Texas -- Officers shot and killed a wanted man Tuesday night outside of a Webster motel.

Authorities from multiple agencies responded to a call around 7 p.m. at the Best Western on Bay Area Boulevard near Texas Avenue.

Police say they attempted to apprehend Robert Deffern, who was wanted on multiple warrants. Police say he was a violent offender.

Officials say Deffern was sitting in a vehicle when they gave multiple commands to show his hands and surrender. That’s when authorities say the suspect pointed a gun at the officers. Two officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect, who was shot and died at the scene.

Authorities say he had two felony warrants: one for possession of a controlled substance and another for evading police.

Authorities say the fatal shot did not come from a Webster police officer’s gun, however. Alvin, League City and Friendswood law enforcement agencies responded to the scene.

Authorities have not said which department or departments shot the suspect.

As per standard protocol, the case is being referred to the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
