Two Houston Police Officers shot in the line of duty are still recovering five weeks after responding to a robbery call in southwest Houston.
Now, HPD and the Thin Blue Line Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club are calling on the community to help Officers Ronny Cortez and Jose Munoz.
Munoz, who was shot in the leg, is about to start rehabbing his injury.
Tuesday, Munoz made his first on camera appearance since the shooting. Munoz met with current and retired HPD officers inside his Gessner police station where Cortez’s presence is sorely missed.
“Cortez is still at TIRR,” said Retired HPD Sergeant and benefit organizer Armando Florido. “He has been paralyzed since he’d been shot. He’s had sporadic movement in his legs [and] can’t control it when it does but the nerves are starting to wake up.”
This Saturday, April 8th, Munoz and Cortez’s benefit will be held inside the Concert Pub North at 2470 Cypress Creek Pkwy in Houston.
The event is from 11a.m. to 5 p.m. Anyone is invited to the benefit.
If you can’t make the event, HPD and Thin Blue Line LEMC ask the Houston community to donate on the officer’s GoFundMe page.
